“Cathedral Sunset” – Sedona, AZ – Michael Wilson – Featured Photographer

I have been to Sedona, AZ several times with my family and camera in tow.   Known for its red rocks, the scenery here does everything except disappoint.  Michael captures the landscape perfectly.  This photograph gives an entirely different perspective of Cathedral Rock from most other photographs of the area.  If you go back to this photo (click here) you can see exactly where Michael is photographing from up on the rock formation.  Once you have checked out both images then head on over http://Michael-Wilson.com  for some more great images of his home state.

Here is Michael:

I live in Prescott, AZ which is about an hour and a half drive from Sedona.  My wife and I drove to Sedona early one morning to take some sunrise photographs from the saddle on top of Cathedral Rock.  I hiked…

Monumental: In Search Of America’s National Treasure

Official Press Release:

NCM Fathom and Kirk Cameron Present Inspirational One-Night Event with

Special Guests and Live Musical Performances in Select Movie

Theaters on Tuesday, March 27

Centennial, Colo. – Feb. 9, 2012 – This spring, audiences across the country will unite to celebrate America’s story of faith and freedom with MONUMENTAL: In Search of America’s National Treasure Live, a one-night event on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. MT/8:00 p.m. PT (tape delayed). Hosted by well-known actor Kirk Cameron, MONUMENTAL reveals the story of the unlikely men and women who risked all for liberty, including the struggles of the Pilgrims, and shares stories of faith that helped shape education, government and civic life in the United States. This special in-theater event will also include live performances from popular Christian music artists, as well as exclusive interviews with media, faith and political figures who will share simple and practical ways to keep America’s ideals alive, beginning at home.

Tickets for MONUMENTAL: In Search of America’s National Treasure Live are available beginning Friday, Feb. 10 at participating theater box offices and online at http://www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Fathom Events to bring this unique theatrical event to audiences across America, as families and groups from every community experience this powerful moment together,” said Cameron. “Over the past year-and-a-half I’ve traveled across the U.S. and Europe to discover the true national treasure of America.    I wanted to find out who the people were that built this country – the heroic men and women who sacrificed everything to be free and give their children and their grandchildren freedom and prosperity. What I found is simply amazing.”

Presented by NCM Fathom and Kirk Cameron, MONUMENTAL: In Search of America’s National Treasure Live will be broadcast to nearly 550 select movie theaters across the country through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

“Through this inspiring, family-friendly in-theater event, audiences will rediscover those who sacrificed everything, so future generations could experience the American dream,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of NCM Fathom.

Moved by the current economic, political and moral issues facing the country, MONUMENTAL, directed by Duane Barnhart, chronicles Cameron’s personal journey to historic sites across Europe and the U.S. to discover the secret that has made America the freest and most prosperous country in the word. As Cameron retraces the heroic and faithful beginnings of America, he discovers a monument to the founding fathers that answers what core principles will keep America strong, free, and well: freedom, justice, education, morality, and religion. Cameron is a television and film actor, noted recently for his work in the inspirational film, Fireproof. He is also known for his memorable roles on ABC’s Growing Pains, the Left Behind movies, and co-host of The Way of the Master television series.

No More Debates!! Please!!

The four remaining candidates vying for the GOP nomination for President had what will hopefully be their final debate of the primary season. These debates are part of the vetting process, but enough is enough. The debates are now filled with the same negative, back and forth banter that only benefits Barack Obama and the Democrats.

It is ridiculous that the GOP allows the media to manipulate the agenda during these debates. Not one question was asked about gas prices, food prices, high unemployment, or the housing crisis. Yet the moderators asked questions about the candidates stances on birth control.

No one is talking about birth control outside of the White House and the media. It’s not an issue Americans are worried about. What Americans are worried about getting back to work and putting food on their family’s table.

Yet the Republicans are still playing the game, attacking each other over ridiculous topics brought up by the moderators instead of focusing their attention on Obama.

And why oh why to the Republicans do debates on liberal networks such as CNN and the ultra liberal MSNBC. The Democrats did not have a single debate on Fox News during the 2008 election. They knew better than to go on a conservative network where they would be hammered, perhaps unfairly.

Yet the Republicans expose themselves to this kind of unfair treatment every time they take the debate stage on any network outside of Fox News. The republicans should take a lesson from the Dems on this one and avoid networks who’s sole purpose is to make the candidates look foolish with gotcha questions.

The GOP needs to remember that at the end of the day, they still need to defeat Obama. He is the one they need to be attacking, not each other. Because at the end of the day everyone is going to need to rally around the chosen candidate.

Hopefully that search for a candidate will end soon.

Iran Court Convicts Christian Pastor Convert To Death

Fox News is reporting that Iranian Christian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani has been convicted to death for leaving Islam and converting to Christianity.

The 34-year-old father of two who was arrested in Oct. 2009, may now be executed at any time without prior warning.

We need to pray hard for a miracle and the release of this brave Christian man.

Under Iranian law, death sentences can be carried out immediately or be dragged out for years.

The courts gave Youcef an out by converting back to Islam, he refused. They gave him another out by proclaiming Muhammad as a prophet, he refused.

I pray that God will somehow intervene and Youcef will be freed, just as Peter and Paul were freed in the book of Acts, or to have the strength and peace of mind like Stephen to be a martyr for Jesus Christ.

What If They Were The Candidates For President?

There are still a few Republicans who are undecided on who they will vote for and feel disenchanted with the current crop of candidates for President.

Many of the elite members of the party decided to sit this election out to the disappointment of many of my fellow Republicans.

What we are left with is four candidates who have many positives, but a few flaws that could effect their electability come November.

I will be writing a detailed voters guide for California that will be posted near the primary date of June 5th. If it makes any difference to those voting prior to California, I am supporting Rick Santorum and I encourage you to do the same.

Of course, Santorum wasn’t my first choice. My first choice was Mike Huckabee, but he chose not to run.

I feel safe in saying that the majority of Republicans’ No. 1 choice did not enter the race.

If along with the remaining four candidates, the following individuals were also on the ticket, I can guarantee the front runners for the GOP nomination would look substantially different.

Mike Huckabee – Huckabee was at or near the top every national pool before announcing that he would not be seeking the nomination for President of the United States.

I can’t say I blame the guy. He has a cozy gig at Fox News doing a weekend show called “Huckabee.” He is also a correspondent for the network.

Huckabee supported the FairTax, is a devout Christian, is pro life, pro traditional marriage and pro strong military. Hopefully he considers running next time around.

Marco Rubio – The popular pick for Vice President would have made a great candidate for President.

The 40-year-old Senator from Florida has a bright future in the party and will undoubtedly be the GOP candidate for president sometime in the future.

Rubio is a social and fiscal conservative. He is ultra popular in his home state of Florida, a key battleground state in every election and would help bring in the Latino vote that the GOP fails to reach on a consistent basis.

Chris Christie – If you think that Newt Gingrich is the only brash and outspoken conservative, well think again.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has The Garden State in an upward trend with fiscal conservative policies like cutting taxes and eliminating wasteful spending.  He has also taken on the unions and other special interest groups who have too much power in this country.

I believe Christie will run for President someday. Probably next time around.

Others such as Mitch Daniels, Sarah Palin, Bob McDonnell, Mitch Daniels and Jeb Bush.

We need to rally around our candidates, but the names above may be a look into the future of the GOP.

First Century Gospel of Mark Found?

In what is being called one of the biggest archeological finds in quite some time, Dallas Theological Seminary professor Daniel B. Wallace has said the newly found fragments from the Gospel of Mark may date back from the first century A.D. If it is confirmed the fragment is from the first century, it would be the oldest New Testament artifact ever found.

“Wallace announced his findings at UNC Chapel Hill on Feb. 1, 2012,  during a debate in front of 1,000 people, where he unveiled that seven New Testament papyri had recently been discovered – six of them he said were probably from the second century, and one of them, the Gospel of Mark, probably from the first. The records will only be published next year, however.

The professor of New Testament Studies identified a fragment from the Gospel of Mark, the second book of the New Testament that chronicles the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, as perhaps the most interesting find among the new discoveries.” – The Christian Post

It’s such a great feeling to know that an actual Gospel of Mark fragment may exist from the era of many of the original followers of Jesus.

Essential Additions To Any Christian’s Library

Throughout my walk with the Lord I have amassed a library of great resources that I use during my study time. Studying God’s Word is an essential for every Christian, and have the materials in hand to go deeper and gain a better understanding of His Word. Keep in mind that the greatest commentary for the Bible is the Bible itself. Let the Bible speak for itself whenever possible. If possible, get a Bible that has cross-references or a concordance in the back to look at other scripture before turning to man written commentaries, which may contain errors.

With that being said, it is important for every Christian to have a library of resources to grow in their walk. Here is a list of items that I have found very helpful and I hope you check them out. The descriptions of each will come straight from the publisher.

Halley’s Bible Handbook: Halley’s Bible Handbook was born out of the conviction of Henry H. Halley that everyone ought to read the Bible daily. From its first edition, a small give-away booklet of 16 pages, it has grown into an 864-page ‘almanac’ of biblical information, used regularly by hundreds of thousands of laymen, teachers, and ministers. Halley’s Bible Handbook contains more biblical information than any other book of its size. It has been a continuous best-seller through the years and has sold more than five million copies in many languages.

The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance: This truly is a one-of-a-kind concordance – The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible. Not only can you find any Scripture passage in the KJV, you’ll find every Hebrew or Greek word behind the English words. It’s computer generated which gives you greater accuracy and the Strong numbering system links you directly to the original Greek and Hebrew words. This is a resource for serious Bible study and is essential for your library.

Chuck Smith’s C-2000 mp3 Through The Bible Collection: Using an MP3 format, The Word For Today compiled Pastor Chuck Smith’s entire C-2000 series on a set of 8 CD’s. You can now fit the complete audio of Pastor Chucks Old and New Testament Bible commentaries into your pocket.

Chuck Smith’s C-3000 mp3 Through the Bible Collection: Pastor Chuck Smith has been teaching the Bible for more than sixty years, and this audio series, entitled the C3000 Edition was taught at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa from the years 1985-1999. This series includes over 600 audio messages. Contains 6 computer discs that may be accessed through any computer with a DVD-Rom Drive.

Doctrines: A Simplified Road Map of Biblical Truth: “As I look at the state of the church, I am concerned. As a shepherd, I worry that the sheep are not prepared and will be deceived. Through much prayer and seeking the Lord, He has led me to write this simple book on the great doctrines of the Bible. Keep in mind—this is not an exhaustive study of the doctrines. I want to provide you with a simple guide, and you can take it from there. With your Bible and this tool, you will not be deceived. You will have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and you will know the heartbeat of God.” – Raul Ries

The Complete 5-year Dr. J Vernon McGee Through The Bible series in mp3 with notes in PDF: This set of 12 discs contains MP3 files of Dr. McGee’s studies of each book of the Bible as heard on the 5-year Thru the Bible radio program. The complete set of Dr. McGee’s Notes and Outlines are also included in PDF format.

Think Biblically! Recovering A Christian World: What we think shapes who we are. That’s why the Bible tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2a). In a world of differing voices competing for our allegiance, we must learn to “think Biblically” so we can distinguish good from evil. God is the Creator of this world; His voice-His Word-must guide our thoughts and our lives.

Second: This is the story of what it takes to be an assistant. Not first, but Second. Has God called you to help another, to hold up their arms as did Aaron, and Hur for Moses? This call can be in any realm of service, not just as an assistant pastor. It is the role of the servant. Directed toward assistant pastors, Romaine gives straightforward instruction on what God requires of believers in service. The reader will be challenged as the Scripture is unfolded, and the truths are aid out.
