Restoring Love

Tonight was the kickoff of the Restoring Love event being put on by Glenn Beck and GBTV. The four-day event that will include many activities, including a day of service on Friday, will wrap up on Saturday with a giant rally at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The full schedule of events can be viewed here.

I will not be in Dallas for the event, but will be watching on GBTV. If you are interested in watching the event, it will only be available on GBTV. The subscription is only $9.99 per month. In my opinion, it’s well worth the investment.

Oakland Zoo Removes Ten Commandments Monument

By: Anna Gallegos

The Oakland Zoo removed a monument enscribed with the Ten Commandments from its property Wednesday. days before a planned weekend protest by a local atheist groups.

Zoo officials said the removal had been scheduled previously and was not related to plans by the East Bay Atheists and Atheists Advocates of San Francisco, which intended to picket the zoo to demand that the monument be removed.

“We had been wanting to do it for a long time,” said Joel Parrott, CEO and president of the zoo. He said he began thinking about taking down the monuments when lawsuits over the religious displays on public land began arising in the early 2000s. “Now, it just seemed like it was a proper time.”

Protest organizers said they were surprised at the zoo’s decision but do not think the zoo’s timing was only a coincidence.

“That’s totally unprecedented,” said Joey Piscitelli, a Martinez resident who has complained to the city previously about the monument. “They wanted to thwart the demonstrations and keep this out of the public eye.”

The 6-foot marble sculpture of enscribed stone tablets has been on zoo property since 1965 when the area was a state park, according to Parrott. The monument was not near to any of the main animal exhibits, but close to the Snow Building, a facility overlooking the city that the zoo often rents out to community groups.

Piscitelli, who identified himself as a pagan, said he had rented the building and that his guests were “shocked” to see the religious display. In a letter to the city and Mayor Jean Quan in May, he called the monument “prejudicial” and said it denigrates the views of non-Christian zoo visitors.

Parrott said the zoo rarely received complaints about the monument.

The protest, originally scheduled for Sunday, will not happen. Piscitelli said the groups will be thanking the zoo for their decision instead.

Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day August 1st

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is backing Chick-Fil-A President and CEO Dan Cathy and his recent statements in support for the Biblical definition of marriage between one man and one woman.

On his Facebook page, Huckabee has created a Chick-Fil-A appreciation day to take place on Aug. 1.

This is the full statement Huckabee posted on his Facebook page.

I have been incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A
company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld. The Cathy family, let by Chick Fil-A founder Truett Cathy, are a wonderful Christian family who are committed to operating the company with Biblical principles and whose story is the true American success story. Starting at age 46 Truett Cathy built Chick Fil-A into a $4 billion a year enterprise with over 1600 stores. At 91, he is still active in the company, but his son Dan runs it day to day as CEO.It’s a great American story that is being smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.

The Chick Fil-A company refuses to open on Sundays so that their
employees can go to church if they wish. Despite the pressure from malls, airports, and the business world to open on Sundays, they still don’t. They treat customers and employees with respect and dignity.

I ask you to join me in speaking out on Wednesday, August 1 “Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.” No one is being asked to make signs, speeches, or openly demonstrate. The goal is simple: Let’s affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1. Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we’re considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant. This effort is not being launched by the Chick Fil-A company and no one from the company or family is involved in proposing or promoting it.

There’s no need for anyone to be angry or engage in a verbal battle. Simply affirm appreciation for a company run by Christian principles by showing up on Wednesday, August 1 or by participating online – tweeting your support or sending a message on Facebook.

Alternate Media Outlets For Conservatives

As Christians, it can be frustrating at times to find a solid media outlet that doesn’t have a far left slant. MSNBC, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, CNN and so on may be the mainstream media, but all lean to the far left.

If you are looking for an alternative, here are a few suggestions.

Fox News: Not the best, but certainly the most popular alternative amongst Conservatives. Fox News tends to lean right, but the majority of their guests are liberal to balance things out. I watch Fox News as an alternative to CNN and MSNBC, but I wouldn’t make it your only source for news. Many other news outlets exists that will cover stories Fox News would get within a hundred miles of.

GBTV: Former CNN and Fox News personality Glenn Beck started his own online network in late summer 2011 and has been very successful thus far with about 300,000 subscribers. The subscription only site has Glenn’s three-hour radio show, a reality show, a children’s show “Liberty Treehouse ,” a one hour show similar to the show he hosted on Fox News and a one hour news show, “Real News from The Blaze,” that covers stories most media outlets will ignore.

The Blaze: The Blaze is associated with GBTV, but is free. It’s a solid news site with great stories you won’t see on the mainstream media. The site also includes a blog, a link to GBTV’s “Real News from The Blaze,” a magazine and a book reading list.

World Net Daily: One of my favorite sites. Similar to The Blaze in many ways. Both sites tackle stories the elite media won’t go near.

Chick-Fil-A Stands Up For Righteousness, Dubbed ‘Hate Mongers’

The Blaze is reporting that popular fast food chain Chick-Fil-A is coming under intense criticism for stating it’s support of traditional marriage.

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,” Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy said in the interview, posted Monday.

It’s cool to hear a high executive of a big company taking a stand for Christian values. God will continue to bless Chick-Fil-A and while they may have lost a few customers, I’m sure they gained many loyal fans in return.
