My Love For Podcasts

Apple_Podcast_logo

During long drives or when I’m just relaxing at home, I love listening to podcasts. In contrast to a lot of talk radio, which tries to reach a broad audience, most podcasts try to only reach a niche market. Most are centered around one topic or so and each episode expands on that topic.

I subscribe to many podcasts from the world on sports, news, politics, and Christianity. Below is a list of the Christian podcasts that I listen to. Most of these shows can be heard on the radio as well, but through podcasts can be listened to at your pleasure.

My Review on the New Left Behind Movie

IMG_0447.JPG

I was truly blessed tonight and got to see a pre-screening of the new Left Behind movie starring Nicolas Cage. The film is set for an October 3, 2014 release.

I won’t get into any heavy spoilers, but I’m sure you could already figure out the main presence of the movie. The rapture happens and the entire world is thrown into chaos.

Overall, I loved the film. The scene when the rapture first occurs is very eerie. No spoilers, but if you want a preview you can read Matthew 24:36-44.

The parts in the film that made the most impact for me personally were the scenes that featured those left behind who knew exactly what was going on. Perhaps someone had shared with them or they heard it in church as a child or adult and choose to say no to Christ. Or maybe they were in a backsliden state. Everyone of them in the film, once the fully grasped what was going on, just broke down in tears knowing that they had opportunity after opportunity to come to know Christ and they refused.

It caused me to examine my life. I asked myself if I am right on with God? Where is my walk today and where was I three years ago when I rededicated my life to Jesus? I asked myself why I didn’t feel the same passion and fire about my Christian walk as I did back then? That desire to grow in your walk should only continue to grow and we need to be careful not to fall into a state of complacency. That’s when a persons falls in danger of backsliding.

If you are a fan of the Left Behind book series, don’t expect to see an adaptation of the first book in the series. The movie focuses on the rapture and only the rapture. That being said, I think they did a pretty good job and I recommend everyone go see this film. Unlike Noah, which was a horrible movie, this film will make make an impact.

I pray that this film is going to be used as a great evangelical tool and every believer will take a nonbeliever friend to the movies and watch this film. It’s going to have the nation buzzing and opening their Bibles for perhaps the first time seeking more answers and searching for God.

The Wave of Christian Films

Since “The Bible” mini-series/movie aired in 2013 on the History Channel, there has been a wave of mainstream .Christian movies for the first time in many years. And with the film “Left Behind,” starring Nicholas Cage, premiering in theaters Oct. 3, Christian themed films could be a new genre that will continue to grow for years to come.

In the aftermath of the success from “The Bible” mini-series , films such as “Son of God,” “Noah,” and “God’s Not Dead,” have been released on the big screen. These films have been met with a mixed reaction from the mainstream critics and the Christian community as well.

For example “Son of God” received a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes and “God’s Not Dead” received a 17%. In contrast to those low scores, “Noah” received a passing grade of 77%. Amongst Christian however, I would take the stance that Noah is viewed as the least favorite of the three. In fact, in the public poll on Rotten Tomatoes, “God’s not Dead” leads with 83%, followed by “Son of God” with 74% and “Noah,” which only had a 44% approval rating from the public.

Personally, I loved both Son of God and God’s Not Dead. Both were great and should be in every Christian home as part of their movie collection. However, I thought Noah was horrible. The fact that the story told in the movie was completely different from the Biblical account aside, the movie was just bad. Nothing about that film impressed me and I found myself frustrated throughout the 2 hours plus it took me to get through the movie. If you haven’t seen this film don’t waste your time.

Dinesh D’Souza Making Follow-Up To 2016: Obama’s America

20130812-000217.jpg

From: DineshDSouza.com

Six months after 2016: Obama’s America became the second highest grossing political documentary of all time, the filmmakers behind the smash hit are teaming up again to produce a new film, simply titled: AMERICA.

“We are now living in the America that we warned our fellow citizens could come to pass if President Obama were re-elected,” said Dinesh D’Souza, best-selling author who will return as writer and host. “Like it or not America is now the nation that Barack Obama Junior and Senior dreamed of creating. Americans are right to be terrified as they see the transformation of America take place before their very eyes. But it’s at great moments of peril like this that we need to regroup and rediscover the first principles of what made America great.”

“We intend to bring the same level of excellence, integrity and honesty to this production and, if we’re successful, we’ll once again be embraced by the American filmgoing public and ignored by the Oscars,” quipped producer Gerald R. Molen, himself an Academy Award® winning filmmaker of such hits as Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park and Minority Report, who returns as producer.

“To paraphrase George Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life, the question all people should ask from time to time is what would the world look like if America never was-and that’s a question I often ask myself,” added D’Souza. “President Obama looks at America as an oppressive force, both against its own citizens and abroad, while I and millions of others around the world have a different view: that America has been a great blessing to its own people and to the world. We intend to provide both serious answers and have some fun as we take Obama’s dreams for America to their logical and conclusions.

The Bible on History Channel Begins Tomorrow

20130302-154713.jpg

I’m sure you have heard by now about the History Channel’s “The Bible” miniseries beginning tomorrow.

I’m looking forward to seeing the series, but have heard mixed reviews of how good it’s supposed to be. And I’ve heard that the filmmakers have taken many liberties with the storytelling.

I hope this isn’t the case and this film can be used as a great tool to spread the gospel.

I guess we will see tomorrow.

New Budget Hero For The 2012 Elections

20121104-013550.jpg

The newest version of the “Budget Hero” game, made specifically for the 2012 elections, has been released.

Budget Hero places you in charge of the federal budget. You are responsible for creating a budget surplus and saving the country from impending doom.

I wrote an article on an earlier version of the game, which can be found here.

The game was created using data from the CBO, which works with Congress to track the federal budget and to predict the impact of proposed federal policies.

Hope For America

Some of the following post is a Book review, but most is my opinion on the current state of America.

The Book “Hope for America” by Greg Laurie shows that Hope for America cannot be found in any Politician but in repenting as a nation and returning to God. What the nation needs is revival.

Laurie points to the 60’s as the starting point of the downfall of America. It was during this time when all these different liberal ideologies came about and slowly began to blur the lines of good and evil and absolute truth. And that brings us to today. You take God and clear lines of right and wrong from our schools and people wonder how someone can take a gun and shoot up their campus. Or shoot up a movie theatre.

It wasn’t always like this. The United States was founded on Judeo-Christian values. lauire gives the example of the first ever prayer in congress.

O Lord our Heavenly Father, high and mighty King of kings, and Lord of lords, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the Kingdoms, Empires and Governments; look down in mercy, we beseech Thee, on these our American States, who have fled to Thee from the rod of the oppressor and thrown themselves on Thy gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent only on Thee. To Thee have they appealed for the righteousness of their cause; to Thee do they now look up for that countenance and support, which Thou alone canst give. Take them, therefore, Heavenly Father, under Thy nurturing care; give them wisdom in Council and valor in the field; defeat the malicious designs of our cruel adversaries; convince them of the unrighteousness of their Cause and if they persist in their sanguinary purposes, of own unerring justice, sounding in their hearts, constrain them to drop the weapons of war from their unnerved hands in the day of battle!

Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly; enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation. That the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that order, harmony and peace may be effectually restored, and truth and justice, religion and piety, prevail and flourish amongst the people. Preserve the health of their bodies and vigor of their minds; shower down on them and the millions they here represent, such temporal blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come. All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior.

Amen.

Several founding fathers are also quoted in the book showing that America was founded as a Christian nation.

Laurie says in the book that revival for America begins with each one of us. Are we where we should be with God? Are we in His perfect will for our lives or are we running from Him like Jonah? We need to take an inventory of our lives and see where we stand.

This also applies to the church as a whole. How can we expect revival to come to a country when the current state of the church is lukewarm. The American church has turned into the Laodicean church.

We must repent before it is too late.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

It can very easily be: “If (Insert your name here) will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive (Insert your name here) sin and heal (Insert your name here) land.”

The above was part book review part analysis on the current situation. I think it can all be summed up with one word, revival.

Will America see revival? Maybe. One thing we do know is that America is seen nowhere in prophecy. It could be that what we happening in America is God’s judgement already falling on America.

This is why it is so important we go to the polls and vote for Mitt Romney. He’s not the GOP candidate I would have chosen and there are some major problems with his religious views, but he’s a whole lot better than Barack Obama.

God is in control and he has put these two candidates in place, and it is our job to vote righteously for the best choice.

Pray for the nation and pray for revival. It’s truly the only hope for America.
